Love taking photos? Constantly on the hunt for ways to elevate your pictures? We’re back to share our love for cheap and ~aesthetic~ props.

In case you missed it, click here for our list of must-have props to make home photography a breeze. All caught up? Here’s our take on essentials to help you zhng your flat lay photos.

Mirrors

When it comes to photography, experimenting with reflections never goes out of style. Whether you’re taking a selfie, portrait shot or flat lays, mirrors have a way of spicing up the end product.

Having said that, regular mirrors most of us have at home do not make the cut. If you like to keep things classy and feminine, save a spot in your cart for these vintage mirror trays (on sale now - under S$8).

On the flipside, these quirky shaped ones (under S$2.50) are perfect for showcasing your eccentric side. Prices start from S$0.70 which could explain why they’re thin. If you prefer something cute with a better grip, give this heart-shaped mirror a shot.

Backdrops

Backgrounds can make or break a photo. If portable and cheap backdrops are what you seek, give these basic paper ones (~S$3) a shot. Not only do they come in a variety of realistic designs, they’re waterproof, double-sided and durable as well.

Unsure about styling product shots? Consider getting 3D backdrops (~S$2). These come with different designs on both sides too but unlike the first one, set-ups are printed on. Simply arrange your products on it and angle your camera for the perfect fuss-free shot. However, each of these can only be used for a few times before it gets too repetitive.

If you’ve always been fascinated by water shots on Instagram, this water-like backdrop (~S$8) is for you. Skincare junkies, how does creating your very own #watershotwednesday minus the mess sound? The paper ones come in two sizes - A1 and A3, while the cloth (semi-transparent/opaque and glossy) measures 1.5m by 1m.

Mini structures

As backed by a photographer, not all items have to be laid down in flat lay shots. In fact, having a mixture of items at different heights and placements results in a more dynamic composition.

Investing in a few mini structures can help people identify the main subject at a glance. There are plenty of affordable ones in the market but we find the marble/granite printed ones (under S$4) and colourful assortment (under S$2) most versatile and easy to work with. These come in various shapes and can be layered to achieve interesting outcomes.

Supporting décor

Most shows can’t do without supporting actors. Likewise, a good photo requires supporting props for the main object to shine. Flowers and accessories are commonly used to fill in gaps in photos but we recommend opting for unique items like feathers, lifelike ice cubes and iridescent pearls (all under S$3). That said, your choice of décor should tie back to the overall theme/mood of the shoot.

Fun fact: Companies use artificial ice cubes for shoots because they never melt. Take note, foodies!
