Ramadan is almost over, and many Muslims in Singapore are getting ready to celebrate Hari Raya.

After fasting for the month, many of those who were fasting are looking forward to indulging in their yearly tradition of visiting friends and family in their colourful and traditional Malay wear. But what I think is perhaps the most important, is the tons of amazing FOOD! With so much good food during the Raya season, we’ve decided to ask our Parti employees to share what are their must-eats when visiting!!!

1) Rendang

It’s everybody’s favourite Raya dish! Rendang is the preparation of beef or mutton, that’s usually slowly cooked in coconut milk and spices over a few hours. Just talking about it makes me crave for it! This dish is always found on the dining table during Hari Raya and every household will usually have their own recipe.

2) Ketupat or Lemang

A symbol of Hari Raya! No Hari Raya is complete without unwrapping one of these delicious glutinous rice dumplings. They are usually eaten alongside other dishes and many Muslims look forward to eating it at the end of their fasting day.

3) Lontong

A staple in many households in Singapore during Hari Raya, this is a dish that includes vegetables and meat in a savoury coconut-based gravy. If this doesn’t fill the void of traditional Raya food, I don’t know what will.

4) Sambal Goreng

Sambal Goreng means stir-fried chili. The name may not excite you but the flavours that ooze out from this dish is unbelievable. Made from Tahu (tofu), tempeh (fermented tofu) and green beans stir-fried in chili paste. It is then simmered in coconut based gravy for flavour and is paired perfectly with steamed white rice. Fun fact, this dish is actually high in protein due to the beans and soya bean products in it. So you can eat away and not be left feeling guilty afterwards.

6) Dodol

What is this chocolate look alike? It is actually a sticky sweet dessert made from coconut milk, cane sugar and rice flour. Perfect for those with a sweet tooth. Fun fact, this is also available in different flavours such as Durian and Apple. HOW COOL IS THAT?!

7) Tapak Kuda

This snack in Malay literally translates to 'horse foot’ and we can totally see why! This hooved-shaped snack is made up of usually Nutella or some chocolate filling and covered by a spongey vanilla flavoured cake. Need I say more?
