TikTok Skincare Hacks That Actually Work

From life hacks to fashion tips and entertaining challenges, it??s no surprise that TikTok's monthly active users grew from 680 million to 800 million in approximately 2 years. But with a ton of mind-blowing hacks on the platform, how do you know what works and what doesn??t? Rest your worries because here are 5 skincare hacks worthy of your time.

Calm cystic acne?

Cystic acne forms when bacteria, oil, and dry skin cells get trapped in your pores. When this occurs, even the slightest touch is enough to make you yelp in pain. And yes, popping these fiery red pimples and getting every bit of pus out is satisfying, skincare gurus advise against doing so to avoid aggravating your skin further.

The secret to reducing the redness and swelling lies in chamomile or green tea. According to TikTok user @bondenavant, all you have to do is pop your used tea bag in the freezer for 10 minutes, and hold it against your area of concern. Both chamomile and green tea have calming benefits but if you have to choose one, green tea would be a better option.

The right amount of sunscreen

Everyone says sunscreen is essential for protecting your face against harmful UV rays, slows down aging, prevents dark spots and seals your skincare. The actual product states that you should apply it liberally, but the age-old question is: How much sunscreen do you actually require?

With reference to @levitate.beauty on TikTok, you should squeeze the product on your second, third and fourth finger - that??s the amount you need. Pretty neat, isn??t it?

Oil cleansing?

Love makeup, but hate how enlarged your pores appear? That??s due to clogged pores and blackheads. Though pores can??t shrink per se, there are ways to make them appear smaller. Hydrating and plumping your skin is one way, but to get rid of the root cause, stubborn blackheads, @opulentjade shared that you should apply cleansing oil to your face and massage for at least 15 to 20 minutes.

Cleansing oils come in different formulas and are tailored specifically to different skin types so even if you have, say, oily skin, you can definitely give this tip a shot.

Repurpose skincare products

Trying a new product comes with fears in tow but the truth is, there??s always an alternate use for it even if it doesn??t live up to your initial expectations. Rather than throwing your money down the drain, why not repurpose it like @levitate.beauty?

Chemical peels or exfoliants are tricky - they don't work for everyone and can cause serious skin irritation if they're used excessively or wrongly. Instead of leaving it at a corner of your vanity or to chuck it away, you can give your feet some TLC by reusing the product as a foot mask. The best part? 10 minutes is all you need.

Same goes for sunscreen. If you've purchased one that leaves a white cast, save it for your hands that require protection against the sun as well.

Fully utilize your products

Tubed products are more sanitary and fuss-free than those that come in a tub. However, one downside is that you can??t tell how much product is actually left in it. The solution? Cut the top of your product off as recommended by @pamper.teach.repeat. The result? Extended utility and a few dollars in your pocket.
