6 Things To Do With Your Friends Before September Ends

At different stages of our lives, we’re bound to meet different people and make new friends while losing some. That’s a no-brainer. According to India Times, an average person makes 396 friends in a lifetime, but only 33 friendships successfully last. Do a quick search online and you’ll find that friends are scientifically proven to have a large impact on our lives i.e. a strong network of friends is beneficial in prolonging life.

With the rise in responsibilities comes the decline of hearty conversations and meet-ups with friends-turned-acquaintances. Here are 6 things to help you keep your friendship sailing before 2019 ends!

1) Movie under the stars

“What should we do this weekend?”

“Anything. You decide?”

Sounds like a common conversation between you and your friends? Why not head down to an outdoor cinema and enjoy the cool night breeze for a change? These are a great alternative to the usual indoor cinemas, and it doubles up as a fantastic excuse to dress up for an IG-worthy shot. #cultured

There are a few outdoor cinemas to choose from – some free-for-all and the others are chargeable. Films at the Fort and Peroni Sunset Cinema are undoubtedly the go-to from what I’ve been seeing on Instagram, especially the latter. Apart from the difference in ticket pricing, location and schedule, each cinema offers different movies which are switched up periodically.

2) Create new memories

At the start of a new year, we’re quick to come up with new year resolutions but how many of us actually stick with it? Instead of procrastinating and pushing it to 2020, act on it now!

Do the things you’ve always wanted to do. Get a new hair color, switch up your wardrobe for styles you’ve never tried before. Break free from the mundane life; be spontaneous and make fun memories because every day is a new adventure!

If you’ve already done that, why not take it to the next level and step out of your comfort zone? Be a content creator for a day! Nando’s wants to know if YOU have what it takes to express their brand ingeniously via a video/ GIF/ Boomerang/ photo(s).

P.S. Stand to earn $75 and an ego-boost moment instantly if your submission is selected! The winning entry will be posted on their official IG account.

3) Work out

Seems like everyone is big on healthy living now so if you’re not part of the community yet, what are you doing?! Sure, exercising is tedious, so make it more enjoyable and suffer alongside your friends. After all, we're all in this together right?

Getting yourself a workout buddy is a sure way of getting each other on track and welcoming a hot bod. Do yourself a favor and keep fit while you can! If you’re just starting out, maybe yoga could be an option (psst, there’s a variety of free classes out there so you have NO excuse to be lazy). Alternatively, get yourself a fitness pass to widen your options and since you’re forking out a sum of money before actually starting on the classes, perhaps you’d be even more motivated to workout already!

4) Board Game Cafes

Before the widespread use of internet, board games were an essential in all households. Old school games like uno, snakes and ladders and the game of life were some of the hot-favorites among my friends!

Before 2019 comes to a close, take some time out and disconnect to connect with your the people around you. Don’t own any board games at home? Fret not, there’s a wide variety of board game cafes in Singapore! Choose from a wide selection of games – honestly, I’ve visited a few cafes a couple of times and each time, I’m still pretty overwhelmed by the amount of games available which puts my knowledge of board games to shame.

Here are some board game cafes to visit for some serious fun that is not only accessible but also wallet-friendly: King And The Pawn, MIND Cafe and Playnation and Coffeemin. For the record, board game cafes are not a boring location where nerds gather – some serve alcoholic beverages doubling up as a chill spot to unwind after work. Most of them have food options as well if you need to re-energize before kicking your friend’s ass in a game of Saboteur.

5) Make dinner plans and actually stick to it

One thing I realized while growing up is that work is endless, so remember to spend time with the people you love as much as you can. If you’re tired of rescheduling dinner plans time after time, it’s time for a change – make dinner plans with your friends and do everything in your power to make it happen!

As Singaporeans, our favorite pastime is eating. But good food doesn’t always come cheap. If money is a big barrier between you and your favorite cuisine, you’re in for a sweet treat! Nobody is going on a diet – not you, not your wallet.

6) See the world

There are many ways to better understand a person but the fastest way to break the ice is to travel together. Because you’re spending so much time together, the good and the ugly sides will gradually come through – think unglam sleeping faces and bad habits.

Venturing across the globe is definitely something we all want but not all of us are blessed to leave as and when we like. If time and money is not on your side, Johor Bahru is your best bet. One hour is all you need to escape from the stress and high costs of Singapore. Go beyond the usual stretch of cafes along Jalan Dhoby and visit Mount Austin instead. From cute cafes to fun activities like singing karaoke, Mount Austin is definitely a must-visit on your next trip to JB.

Life is short; spend time with your loved ones while you can and live life to the fullest! May you find joy in the littlest things and we sure hope these recommendations came in handy!
