Who is gonna win the teleco war?

July 28, 2019
August 13, 2024

Always changing your phone every time a new iPhone is launched? Constantly struggling to not exceed your data plan (even with 10GB of data/month)? I feel your pain! The struggle of being tied to a telco for TWO years and surviving on the data plan that you??ve made a commitment to when signing the contract.??

But that is all about to change! With all the major telcos launching no contract SIM-only plans, each better than the other, it has become a crazy war amongst telcos and we, as consumers, are reaping all the benefits!

Partipost is gonna do you a favour and break things down for you. Read on as we find out which SIM-only plan is the best and provides the most value for a data lover like myself!

Do your friends a favour too by sharing this on!

The Contenders - GOMO, Giga and M1

GOMO - $20 for 20GB!

GOMO SIM-only Plan :?

  1. $20 for 20GB, 200 mins talktime & 200 SMSes
  2. Free Caller ID & incoming calls
  3. No registration or delivery free
  4. Data roaming option at $10 for 1GB

As a normal millennial, this plan is definitely more than enough to satisfy my daily usage and can we also take a moment and appreciate the cute mascot! The only downside is that they have the lowest talktime and SMSes amongst all the plans but who really uses regular calls and messages these days when you can WhatsApp and FaceTime instead!

Also, GOMO is by Singtel, so you don??t have to worry about not getting a signal and you can count on it??s reliability.?

As for the wanderlusters, GOMO has recently launched a travel roaming SIM at a price tag of $10 for 1GB. With the competition being so intense right now, this is not the most value for money option unfortunately. However, this is still a good option for those who??d prefer to use a different SIM card while travelling!

If you??re just into watching Instagram stories on the go and scrolling through Facebook as you travel to and fro places. Then this plan is more than enough for you. Being the cheapest of the lot, with 20GB, it??s more than enough for a regular data user. Brownie point, registration and delivery is free too! So for the price conscious, GOMO is the one for you!

Giga - $25 for 25GB!

Giga SIM-only Plan :

  1. $25 for 25GB, 1000 mins talktime & 1000 SMSes
  2. Unused data can be rolled over for up to 2 months
  3. Free Caller ID & incoming calls
  4. Travel Roaming available at $5 for 1GB
  5. $2 delivery fee

For whatever reasons, 20GB is not enough for you, you might want to consider giving Giga a shot! At just an additional of $5 per month, you get more data, more talktime and more SMSes! And the best part about Giga is that you can ROLL OVER your unused data for up to TWO months, this is unprecedented in the telco world, in Singapore.?

You can even take advantage of Giga??s many add-on packs to further customize the plan to your needs. Special mention for Insta ??n?? FB pack which allows you to add data for Instagram and Facebook usage at only $1/GB!?

  • Data pack : +$2 monthly for 1GB local data
  • WhatsApp pack : +$1 monthly for 1GB local data (for WhatsApp usage only)
  • Insta ??n?? FB pack : +$1 monthly for 1GB local data (for Instagram & FB usage only)

You can be a baller and watch all the Instagram stories and Facebook videos without worrying about exceeding your data limit!

For the travel bugs out there, Giga has a travel roaming pass which means you don??t have to change your SIM card when you??re travelling. The pass is at $5 for 1GB (valid for 5 days) and it can be used across 14 different countries! And as a frequent traveller, this definitely pushes Giga??s plan to the top of my list!

If you??re looking for the best of both worlds, having enough data and value for money data roaming when travelling, then this is the perfect plan for you!

Since you??re here, thought we should let you know that we have just the campaign for you if you??d like to try Giga for FREE*!

M1 - $25 for 30GB!

M1 SIM-only Plan :

  1. $25 for 25GB, 1000 mins talktime & 1000 SMSes
  2. Free Weekend Data
  3. Free calls to 3 M1 numbers
  4. Free Caller ID & incoming calls
  5. Unlimited music streaming for Spotify

This one might come as a surprise to you. With all the various telco plans/names being thrown around, I did not expect to see M1 to be a part of this list.?

M1 offers the same price plan of $25, like Giga, but you can get 30GB of data instead of 25GB. M1 and Giga essentially provides the same value with the exception of M1 giving an additional 5GB of data.?

Now, here comes the kicker, M1 not only gives an additional 5GB of data for $25 but it gives you FREE UNLIMITED weekend data for 3 months if you??re a new sign up and for 6 months if you switch over to M1. And if that??s not enough, you can also stream Spotify music all day everyday without it ever eating into your data.?

They too have an add-on option for the globetrotters, there??s a Data Passport add-on at $10 for 1GB. Though this option does not require you to change your SIM card, it??s not the cheapest in the market.?

Considering the overall package, the M1 SIM-only plan is definitely the most value for money! Again, I don??t consume THAT much data myself but I can see how this plan would be great for others. For instance, my boyfriend will always be streaming videos and playing games whenever he??s at camp for reservist, using up 30GB is not an issue for him.?

Should you go for this plan, do take note that free registration is only valid for online sign ups and free delivery is only valid for online sign ups or re-contract only (accurate as of 30 Jul 2019). If not, there will be a $48.15 charge for SIM card and registration.?

Final Comparison

So after all that information overload, here??s a summary for you to identify what you??re looking for.?

Being a millennial who depends heavily on data, I would personally go for Giga or M1 for a bit more data for just an extra $5 a month.?

However, if you are looking for the cheapest option, GOMO is your best choice! It will provide enough for you to call/text your bae, stalk whoever??s photos he has been liking on social media and still have some to spare.
