First Date Survival Guide

The dating scene has been evolving with more people relying on dating websites and apps to find their one true love. As simple as using an app may seem, you are still going to be meeting a person for the first time, which means you will still have to go through all the awkward motions associated with a first date.?

But like all things in life, there are things you can do to make things easier on yourself and prepare for the date.?

So If you think you??ve met the right one and wanna take things into the real world, here are 8 tips to help you get ready for your first date.??

1) Prepare your date?

Everyone likes a little surprise and mystery so it is completely fine if you want to keep your date plan a secret! But at least give your date a heads up on what to wear as there is nothing worse than showing up overdressed or under-dressed.?

Just imagine having to turn up to the movies in a cocktail dress or a formal suit ???

2) Dress comfortably

Now once you have a hint of where you??re going to be heading to for your date, think about what you want to wear to impress and yet still be comfortable.

Ladies, don??t just be grabbing your most eye-catching outfit and go all-out! The last thing you want to do is to be seen pulling up your bra or pulling down your dress (major turn off). So pick an outfit that you??ve tried on before and you know you look 100% in it! This way, you can focus more on your date than to focus more on if your flashing too much.? ?

3) Take pride in your appearance

People say that when you look good, you feel good. Other than your outfit, the next thing you need to take care of is your appearance. In various contexts of meeting someone new, first impressions matter! You would want to look like you??ve put in effort into taking care of yourself aka personal grooming. We??re talking about skin care, hair care and maybe even nail care. When you feel like you look 100%, the aura you exude will reflect the same.

But of course, there are going to be days where things go wrong. Bad hair days, time of the month and the list can go on and on. There are always solutions even when you feel like there isn??t one.?

Bad hair days? Pop by your neighbourhood salon and get a quick wash and blow! Not only will this help ensure amazing looking hair, you??ll even get a pre-date head massage that will help you relax.?

Time of the month is here or feeling stressed out lately? Noticed a few unwanted friends starting to surface on your face? Instead of popping them which is a big no-no, you should try doing spot treatments by applying an anti-acne serum over the pimple. Znique is an all-natural anti-acne serum that will help calm your pimples down. Another great tip for the product is that you can even apply it as a form of prevention as the formula inhibits the growth of acne-causing bacteria! So if you know your big date is coming, start applying it a few days before so that you won??t get any unwanted surprises.?

4) Revisit your online conversations

If you met your date on Tinder or Coffee Meets Bagel, it??s probably safe to say that he/she??s not the only one you??ve been talking to.? There??s no shame in that, but you will be ashamed when you can??t remember what you guys talked about or worse yet, you mixed up the conversations.

So do yourself a favour before meeting your potential partner by re-reading your conversations and oh yeah, remember their name.

5) Show up early

Whoever told you showing up fashionably late was the way to go is definitely still single and alone.

Why you should show up early? Well, firstly showing up early ensures that you??re not late for your date! Also, you wouldn??t want to turn up for your date looking all sweaty and flustered because you were rushing. Being early gives you the advantage of planning for an escape route should the date goes south cause who knows who??s going to turn up with all the catfishing going on nowadays.?

6) Keep the conversation interesting?

You??ve met, you??ve gotten past the awkward hellos and introduction, what now? For starters, giving your date a simple compliment goes a long way and it always instantly lightens the mood. But don??t go overboard with the compliments or it will seem insincere.

Nothing breaks the ice like laughter. Be creative with your conversation topics! You guys have been chatting for a while now, there are bound to be some common interests. Start with those and you should be able to ease on to other topics smoothly.?

7) Don??t get too personal / Don??t be too kaypoh

We cannot stress this enough! There??s a fine line between casual conversation and a full on interrogation about your date??s past. It??s only the first date (chill out dude) so don??t scare them away. Usually, one will reveal its true self with time.

Focus on giving eye contact and being present when your date is talking instead of his/her first relationship. There is also no need to find out if they are husband/wife material on the first date. If you continue to see each other, there is plenty of time to figure that out. Again, time will tell and who knows, sometimes people will surprise you.

8) Have fun and be prepared for anything

Especially for the ladies out there, we got you covered. If all goes well, your first date might begin at a coffee shop and end up back at your place for a second cuppa (hehe). Don??t freak out about the state of your room or how your date is going to leave in the morning. Just enjoy the intimate moment you both are about to share.?

To be ever ready* cause you never know when prince charming will appear and sweep you off your feet, you should always have protection for extra precaution. We also advise using a feminine wash regularly to ensure your lady friend down there is healthy and well protected from day-to-day bacterias even.?

*We do not encourage doing anything if you??re underage or if you??re not ready for it. You should never feel pressured into situations that you??re not comfortable with. Here??s (https://www.aware.org.sg/womens-care-centre/helpline/) a few helplines available should find yourself in such a situation, if not, call 999.??
