How far would you go for crystal clear skin? Many people have gone to great extents just to achieve this, and it’s totally understandable. Who doesn’t want beautiful skin? But what we don’t understand is how these bizarre beauty fads were even discovered. Read on to find out what crazy things people are putting on their faces for that picture-perfect bloom.

1) Fire Facial

This brings a whole new meaning to the term ‘Hot Bod’. The Huǒ liáo treatment, also known as the Fire treatment, originated from China. It involves first soaking a towel in alcohol then a beauty elixir is draped over parts of the body or face, then set on fire. Yikes!

Unlike your usual facial, this doesn’t sound very safe or relaxing, but what it does promise is a stimulating skin treatment which addresses dullness, sagging and wrinkles. So if you’re feeling adventurous or maybe you’re just a thrill-seeker, this can probably be on your bucket list.

2) Solid Gold Facial

Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach offers spa patrons an opportunity to have their entire body painted in gold. This 24 karat gold facial helps shave off cellulite and prevents aging. But let’s face it, not all of us have the funds to be entirely painted in gold.

Here’s a slightly cheaper, but equally good deal for you 🤑

We’ve collaborated with Fresver Beauty. Find out how you can get a $29 facial and still feel like 24 karat gold - check it out below!

3) Bird’s Poo Facial

It really is true when they say it’s good luck for bird poop to fall on you. You may be turned off and disgusted but bird poo is said to brighten up your complexion and contains enzymes which act as an effective skin cleanser.

A favourite among Japanese Geisha ladies, this facial is made from sterilised nightingale bird excrement. Apparently it’s so popular that it even made its way to Western beauty-seekers. One bird’s trash is another man’s treasure?

4) Snail Facial

Compared to the Fire facial, this one’s definitely a gentler, less life-threatening alternative. The ‘Celebrity Escargot Course’ begins with an initial cleansing by an aesthetician. The snails, derived from organic farms, apply moisturising hyaluronic acid, antioxidants and proteins by crawling all over your face. The facial originated from Japan and is one of the most popular facials amongst the Japanese. Whoever came up with it definitely snailed it ;)

5) Bee Venom Facial

The all-natural ingredient from honey bee venom that’s often found in your face masks and cream contains peptides like melittin and apamin. They increase your blood circulation and stimulate collagen and elastin. Kate Middleton swears by this facial and she has gorgeous skin, so you might what to give it a shot. ____There’s plenty more weird and bizarre facials where that came from, but if you want to stick to the good old regular facial, don’t forget to check out the Partipost app to find out more about our campaign with Fresver Beauty.
